CHAS - Children's Hospices Across Scotland

We’re Children’s Hospices Across Scotland. But most people know us as CHAS. For over twenty years we’ve been offering a full family support service for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions. This includes palliative care, family respite and support – through our hospices, homecare services and hospital presence.

Our Fit Like? Aberdeen hubs are a group of services in Northfield, Balgownie, and Kincorth working together with children and their families throughout the city. Across Aberdeen we are seeing significant numbers of young children disengaged from education and unable to leave home due to feelings of anxiety as well as a huge increase in the number of children and young people referred to Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) . We help families to identify their strengths and work with them at their pace to build on these. Reducing the likelihood of these needs escalating, it minimises the distress and disruption experienced by children and helps the whole family to recover from their experiences. We make it easy for families to reach out for support that feels non-stigmatising and non-threatening with drop-in Saturday sessions, supper clubs and holiday programmes with an outdoor focus to give them an easy and unstructured way to get to know us. By building trust together, families feel more comfortable reaching out to us for support and we can respond with additional help at the first sign of distress.

Dates-n-Mates

Dates-n-Mates

Dates-n-Mates is Scotland's first friendship and dating project run by and for people with learning disabilities. There are four branches across Scotland with the Aberdeen branch launching in 2015. We provide a variety of social activities, events and opportunities for people with learning disabilities to make meaningful connections across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Our work is underpinned by a human rights based approach. We believe it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved. Influenced by our members preferences, we organise social events where there are opportunities for new friendships and connections to be created. We facilitate friendship matching, date chaperoning and training workshops. Our workshops aim to enhance our member’s knowledge, confidence and wellbeing. Each branch has a paid Director with lived experience of learning disability themselves. Members and Directors influence the direction of the organisation and the range of opportunities we offer. Anyone over 18 with a learning disability is eligible to become a member. Membership is £5 per month.
