Dates-n-Mates
Dates-n-Mates is Scotland's first friendship and dating project run by and for people with learning disabilities. There are four branches across Scotland with the Aberdeen branch launching in 2015.
We provide a variety of social activities, events and opportunities for people with learning disabilities to make meaningful connections across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Our work is underpinned by a human rights based approach. We believe it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved.
Influenced by our members preferences, we organise social events where there are opportunities for new friendships and connections to be created. We facilitate friendship matching, date chaperoning and training workshops. Our workshops aim to enhance our member’s knowledge, confidence and wellbeing.
Each branch has a paid Director with lived experience of learning disability themselves. Members and Directors influence the direction of the organisation and the range of opportunities we offer.
Anyone over 18 with a learning disability is eligible to become a member. Membership is £5 per month.

Kayleigh's Wee Stars
Kayleigh's Wee Stars is a local charity established in 2012 by Jonathan and Anna Cordiner after losing their 2 year old daughter Kayleigh to a terminal illness. With a desire to help other families, the charity was set up to offer support to families caring for a terminally ill child.
Our funds help families, many of whom have to give up work, to cover essential living costs and other expenses associated with caring for their child, such as travel to hospital and hospices or childcare for siblings. Additionally our funds are used to purchase specialist equipment or to allow home modifications to ensure the child can stay at home for their final weeks or months and be safe and comfortable. We also fund short breaks for families to spend some last precious time together. Kayleigh's Wee Stars is there to ensure no family caring for a terminally ill child should have to worry about money.
