Dates-n-Mates

Dates-n-Mates

Dates-n-Mates is Scotland's first friendship and dating project run by and for people with learning disabilities. There are four branches across Scotland with the Aberdeen branch launching in 2015. We provide a variety of social activities, events and opportunities for people with learning disabilities to make meaningful connections across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Our work is underpinned by a human rights based approach. We believe it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved. Influenced by our members preferences, we organise social events where there are opportunities for new friendships and connections to be created. We facilitate friendship matching, date chaperoning and training workshops. Our workshops aim to enhance our member’s knowledge, confidence and wellbeing. Each branch has a paid Director with lived experience of learning disability themselves. Members and Directors influence the direction of the organisation and the range of opportunities we offer. Anyone over 18 with a learning disability is eligible to become a member. Membership is £5 per month.
